Proposed Changes: Aerobatics & Pylon

The following document contains recommended changes to the slope soaring aerobatics and pylon rules currently listed in a the Model Aeronautical Association of Australia (MAAA) rules book, under the heading, Slope Soaring Contests.

The original rules for these two tasks (aerobatics and pylon) were developed over 30 years ago at a time when slope soaring was the predominant form of gliding. Travelling was not an issue and spare time was abundant. The revised rules are more suited to the era in which we now live, though they were trialled very successfully in 1993, 1994 and 1995. The revised aerobatics program is more challenging, void of past flaws and inconsistencies and will be easier to run for all future organisers.
